Baby Aidan & Ronan were much anticipated..of course by their adoring mom and dad, but also by me! I’m so excited to meet little ones when I have met their parents at a maternity session – you can view their mama’s gorgeous pregnancy images here. These two were such fun to work with – just look at them snuggling! They will grow up to best best of friends, no doubt about that!

It’s always a fun session when I get to work with newborn baby twins! These 2 were some of the tiniest I had yet! Normally I can only squeeze a single, fairly small baby into the wicker basket, but these two just fit as snug as two bugs in there It was such a pleasure to meet them! Welcome Keziah and Asher – you are so loved!

Such a cute mama-to-be! A combination of in-studio and outdoor maternity is my absolute favourite! Of course, the weather has to cooperate – and this was an absolutely gorgeous evening. I’m really looking forward to meeting this baby very soon!

I received an email from Nathan’s mom around the time of his due date – my heart sank when I read the first sentence…”he was born early and with a heart defect.” But to my amazement, in the next sentence, she explained how he went in for open-heart surgery when he was just 3 days old – and was recovering beautifully!

He was already a miracle baby in my mind, but when I heard his whole story at his newborn photo session, I began to realize how amazing his story really is. Slightly before her due date, Nathan’s mom was induced and had her gorgeous baby boy at Royal Columbian Hospital. Being a maternity nurse herself, she immediately had a feeling that something was just not right with her newborn…. she brought her concerns to the attention of the pediatricians and specialists and, 48 hours after his birth, a diagnosis was made. Her instincts were right – Nathan was born with Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return (TAPVR), a condition in which the 4 pulmonary veins (which are supposed to be returning blood to the heart’s left ventricle) are actually connected to each other instead. The only reason little Nathan survived being born with this condition is because his foramen ovale, which should have closed when he took his first breaths, miraculously did not close. Once the diagnosis was made, Nathan went right into surgery at BC Children’s Hospital. Thanks to amazing doctors, nurses, and staff, the surgery was a success. You can see an image of him with a heart-shaped pillow below – I learned that these are given to children at BCCH who are recovering from open-heart surgery, so that they can hug them to gain a bit of support in their chest and ease the pain. It makes my own heart ache to imagine this – as a parent, how do you have the strength to watch your little one in such pain?

When Nathan came for his photo session a few weeks after surgery, the staples from his incision had just been removed. It was surreal to see such a tiny body with such a massive scar. And it was incredible to see the love that his parents have for him….after all they went through during his first few days and weeks, they had such joy in simply holding and snuggling with their little one. It will be a newborn session that I will never forget. I’m so thankful I got to meet Nathan and his parents, and I am honoured to be a small part of his first few weeks of life!

I first met Madeleine’s mom and dad for a maternity session about a month before her birth – so I was really excited finally meet this little one! You can check out the maternity session here. Her mom chose the colours – neutrals, creams, purples, and yellows – and I love how it all came together! The cherry blossoms were in bloom at my studio, so I used them with my nest….such sweet images of this gorgeous girl surrounded by flowers!

I love the colours we used in baby Kendall’s photos session, some of my favourites for spring! Her mom was a participant in a Fit 4 Two class in Langley, BC, and won a photo session giveaway. Fit 4 Two offers pre and postnatal fitness in many locations all over BC, and Canada (and even in the United Arab Emirates!). I first found out about them after I had my son 4 years ago, and attended a postnatal fitness class. I was so excited to find a class that I was able to attend with my brand new baby, and also that was tailored just for moms transitioning back into fitness after having babies. It is such a great concept! I am honoured to work with them, and help promote health and fitness during and after pregnancy. Here are a few images from little Kendall’s newborn session – isn’t she a beautiful little girl?

I really had a hard time picking my favourite images of sweet baby Ayana for this post…she is such a gorgeous little girl! Her name means “beautiful blossom,” and it just so happened that the cherry trees here in Vancouver, BC were in full bloom at the time of her session! She was such a cooperative little newborn, especially for being slightly beyond 2 weeks of age – she slept for the entire session with hardly a peep. Enjoy this little sneak peek of Ayana’s newborn photo session!

I was amazed at how cooperative sweet Donna was for her newborn photo session – she was quite a bit older than most newborns that I photograph. And, an image of both a newborn and an older child smiling at the same time!! I think Donna and her big cousin are going to be best of friends, don’t you?

I was really looking forward to meeting Anika and her parents, as they were the winners of the PuddleJumpers Clothing Co. giveaway that we did back in the fall. PuddleJumpers is a gorgeous boutique which carries beautiful clothing for babies and children, located in Parallel Marketplace in Abbotsford, BC. Debra, the store owner, picked out a few exquisite headbands from her shop for little Anika to model (you can see one in the first image below). I always get lots of requests from parents as to where they can purchase headbands for newborns – it’s not always easy to find them that small – but a girl should always have a few hair accessories, right?
